I was thinking about violence the other day–violence in the world and violence on the world and the difference between the two where violence on the world includes violence on the environment.
Environmental violence would be the destruction of habitats and species that have long inherited the earth for humanity’s sake, profit, gain, advancement, and politics. There’s violence on mankind as well as on humanity and it seems that people who can’t see the difference is split along party lines.
Spirit of mankind has a sad history.
Spirit of a man
Spirit of man
Spirit of woman
Spirit of child
Sprit of old man (sorry, you’ve lived your life)
These groupings are non-linear and non-hierarchical.
Don Juan talks about the spirit of man:
“I don’t need you to pay me back,” he said, “but if you still want to pay back, make your deposit to the spirit of man. That’s always a very small account, and whatever one puts in it is more than enough.”
What represents a deposit? Spirit of man is strong and hopeful and anything that contributes to this would be considered a deposit. Something that is unique and speaks from your own spirit.
Making a gesture to spirit is with spirit where you are trying to express an idea or meaning through action to spirit directly. By looking and thinking about the sum total of experience of an account you also honor spirit.
Does intent matter? Yes.
What about impeccability? Certainly.
