He told me that he taught me the Mastery of Awareness in two ways, just as the new seers recommended.
Right side (normal awareness) which led to two goals
– thought me the warrior’s way
– and he loosened my assemblage point from its original position.
Left side (heightened awareness) accomplished two goals
– he made my assemblage point shift to as many positions as possible
– he had given me long series of explanations
He explained that what the new seers saw in the glow of awareness resulted in the sequence in which they arranged the old seers’ truths about awareness. From that they developed three sets of techniques
1. The Mastery of Stalking
2. The Mastery of Intent
3. The Mastery of Dreaming
(Fire, 168)
Basic Premises
- The universe is an infinite agglomeration of energy fields, resembling threads of light
- These energy finds, called the Eagle’s emanations, radiate from a source of inconceivable proportions metaphorically called the Eagle.
- Human beings are also composed of an incalculable number of the same threadlike energy fields… a giant, luminous egg.
Don Juan’s instruction on the Art of Stalking and the Mastery of Intent depended on his on his instruction of the Mastery of Awareness, which were the cornerstones of his teaching (Silence, xv)
The Mastery of Awareness consisted in internalizing the total sequence of such truths (Fire, 32)
The first truth–there is no world of objects, but a universe of the Eagle’s emanations.
Without the order, those truths are nearly incomprehensible. (Fire, 33)
The world out there is not what you think it is. We think it is a world of solid objects when it’s not. (Fire, 36)
The world is not an illusion; we learn that to perceive what is really out there are the Eagle’s emanations, fluid, forever in motion, and yet unchanged, eternal. (Fire, 37)
